Benjamin Rothermich is an American flutist who has performed in North America and Europe and pursues musical opportunities where they can be found. He is a third-year undergraduate student studying under Brian Luce at the University of Arizona (UA). Presently, he is performing as second flute/piccolo with the Arizona Symphony Orchestra. Rothermich has also performed with the UA Philharmonic Orchestra, UA Wind Symphony, and UA Wind Ensemble. Along with large ensembles, Rothermich is a member of UA’s premiere recording flute ensemble, Flutefinity. At the Arizona Flute Society Flute Festival held yearly, he competed and achieved second place twice in the Undergraduate division. Rothermich performed in masterclasses with Viviana Guzmán and Robert Marie Vincent Touzet in 2024. Some of his favorite pieces that he has played include Strauss’ Overture to Die Fledermaus, the third movement of Ibert's flute concerto, and Symphony No. 6: The Blue Marble by Julie Giroux.

Currently, Rothermich is a tutor for theory with the music department.  He assists during class and schedules sessions with students to help them attain a better understanding of the concepts. He has coached the flute section for New Horizons, a music program dedicated to bringing music into the lives of adults through performance. Rothermich is also working with the University of Arizona as a stagehand for the university’s many performances.

Rothermich has had multiple opportunities to perform in widespread events. In February of 2023, he performed as a member of the Honors Performance Series in Carnegie Hall, conducted by Kirt Mosier. He played a combination of both flute and piccolo. Most recently, he performed with Flutefinity at NFA's 2023 convention in Phoenix. For this performance, Rothermich performed on a contrabass flute. Rothermich has also performed in a large spread event on piccolo, that being the Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade in 2021.

After graduating from the University of Arizona, Rothermich plans to pursue a master's degree and continue performing in ensembles. He is striving towards orchestral performance and teaching students worldwide, spreading his passion for performance and technical prowess.
